It’s a new year and along with that comes Pantone’s pick for Colour of the Year.

Introducing… Ultra Violet.

Ultra Violet is a blue-based purple and is a colour that calls to action, meant to drive us forward into our individual creative expression of how we want to contribute to the world around us. What a fitting message for 2018 with so much uncertainty and change afoot.

The Pantone Colour Institute had to say the following, “we are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet”.

To help ignite your creativity and get you inspired about all things Ultra Violet we have put together some concept boards showcasing the multitude of applications. From furniture to fashion and art to fabric, we have you covered.

Taking cues from the shades of purple found in nature, rich feminine florals and painterly prints are the perfect way to incorporate Ultra Violet into your interior. Introduce pops of the colour into your decorating scheme through plain fabrics such as plush velvets, rich wools, textured weaves and metallic vinyl’s. The calming cool shade of purple is the ideal colour to use as a feature in your interior space where relaxation and refuge is desired. A splash of colour that can bring your room to life in an understated elegant way.

2018’s colour of the year is a call to be bold. Ultra Violet is unapologetic about making a statement. When working with a bold colour it can feel intimidating, however when used smartly it can be a seamless statement in any room.

It all comes down to balance. Using it for cushions, throws, lamps, rugs, artwork and tabletop accessories are great resources for adding highlights of purple into a space without dominating.

If your home space is all about bold and beautiful then taking Ultra Violet to the next level of a feature wall, sofa or floor to ceiling drapery will tick all your creative colour boxes. For the more traditional interiors, we recommend opting for softer shades of purple in classic patterns such as damasks, regency stripes and lattice designs.

If 2018 is inspired by the colour of its name sake, then our year will be filled with connotations of creativity, artistic expression, knowledge, ingenuity, spirituality, mindfulness, possibilities, hope, counterculture, unconventionality and brilliance.

Ultra Violet’s uplifting and inspired charm makes for a great resolution for the year ahead.
